Can the American dollar go pretty far in the CR? I was just checking out the currency converter and was trying to figure out if $1.00 for 21.91 is good. Thanks.

Certainly further than in most of the rest of Europe. Living expenses (food and drink) are fairly reasonable, depending on where you go. Hotels are all over the map. Consumer goods (electronics, clothing, etc.) are generally more expensive than in the states (at least in the city-center shops and department stores).
As a gauge, a 1/2 litre beer can vary from 25Kc to 100Kc from outside of the city center to within the tourist zone.
All in all though, it%26#39;s better than paying 12EUR for 1/2 litre as I did in Oslo.
