U Semika or Hotel Claris?

That%26#39;s our first trip to Prague, and I thinked to go to Vysehrad area, that seems quiet enough.

I am thinking about Hotel U Semika and Hotel Claris, (Prague experts) which you can recommend?

Could you advice good pubs, restaurants and cafés in this area?

Family friends have stayed at the Claris several times and have always been happy (friends are both young and old). It is a three-star hotel, with clean, colourful rooms. They serve a simple continental breakfast (choice of simple hot and cold things like frankfurters, bread and cheese etc.,), but there is no bar there.

Don%26#39;t be put off by the area immediately around the hotel - it looks a bit seedy at first, but it isn%26#39;t. The Claris is located in Vinohrady which is a rich, safe area, with mainly locals and expats living there. There are many restaurants nearby, especially on Vinohradska street - a minute%26#39;s walk from your hotel - Chodoba is good for Czech food and beer, and has a nice fireplace in the winter (make sure you book a table as it is very popular in the evenings) - it is on the corner of Vinohradska and Trebiskeho a very short walk from your hotel. There are also good bars around Namesti Miru (Square of Peace) such as Cheers (on the corner of the square by Belgicka) which serves good food (Czech and internationa) - it%26#39;s very reasonably priced, has lots of different Czech beers, and is popular with a young crowd. Pretty much all the restaurants are good around that area, and are reasonably priced. The only ones I would suggest you avoid are pizzerias which tend to be poor to average - the only decent one around that area is Pizzeria Grosetto at Namesti Miru (at the beginning of Francouska street).

Personally, I would choose the Claris as the area is more convenient than Vysehrad as it%26#39;s only a 15 minute walk to the top of Wencelas square, and there are good transport links nearby too - it is near metro line A which has all the main sites on it - Wencelas Square, Old Town, the lesser quarter, and the castle (although the walk to the castle from the metro station is quite long!). You can also get trams 22 and 23 from Namesti Miru which will take you closer to the castle in about 20 minutes.
