Hi there,
My Fiance and I have just booked up for 7 nights in Prague for our Honeymoon. We are travelling to Prague on the 29th January 2007. Having looked at the reveiws on Tripadviser we have decided to stay at the Andel%26#39;s hotel.
I have a few questions that I am hoping someone can answer.......
I know that the Andel%26#39;s hotel is not as close to the main attractions as other hotels....but just how far away is it from the square and the Old Town? Is it a nice/safe walk?
We are also quite looking forward to the seeing Prague in the winter. Just how cold will it be??
Is it worth buying a phrase book to learn some basic Czhech....or do most speak a little English in the tourist parts of the city?
I do love my beer.......so what is the best brewery to visit?
I am sure that I will have more questions as the trip gets closer!
Thanks,
Euan

Andels is just a bit far out to walk into the city center especilly in the cold weather 30-35 minutes. There are great tram and metro links nearby that get you into the center very quickly.
I will be a bit colder than Scotland but without the chilling dampness we get,and yes a good chance of snow.phrase books are a bit of a waste of time as the pronounciation is the difficult part, alsmost as bad as Gaelic.English is quite well used in the city center and menus are prited in english as well as other languages.
The Staroprammen Brewery is not far from the hotel but if you want a tour you must book one.they have a good resturant at the brewery and I have eaten there a few times.http://iglo.lundegaard.cz/staropramen_new/centrum/eng/index.html
there are a few Micro breweries in Prague and I think some do tours.
www.classiccitybrew.com/prague has a list of them. The beer at the Klasterini Pivovar is very nice.
the best Brewert to visit is the Plsner Urquell Brewery in Plzen about90 minutes away by train.I have been there twice and intend going back again.http://www.prazdroj.cz/en/index.php?qstring=%26amp;SHOW_AGECHECK=true

andels is a good 40 minutes walk from the centre - too far. Less than 5 minutes down the street is the Andel metro which takes you straight to the centre and the tramstop where the number 12 tram will take you to below the castle area.
Prague in Janaury can be as low as minus 10 or even lower. It is curiously enough warmer when it snows, but do expect sub zero temperatures.
don%26#39;t bother with a phrasebook. Most people you see speak english and even if you tried with Czech, some of the words are so difficult, they probably wouldn%26#39;t understand you.
Best brewery to visit is the Plzen brewery which is an hours easy train journey from Prague
