Local Wine!!

I%26#39;d be interested to know a bit more about local wines (prefer white)

Have looked at a few wine menus and they aren%26#39;t as cheap as i thought they%26#39;d be! (I%26#39;m used to paying aound £3.00 for a glass, but some i%26#39;ve looked at are far more than this)! But hey, i%26#39;m going for Christmas so what the hell..!!

Just wondered what was a good local wine to look out for...?!

(my usual wine is white, californian)

Your post does not say what varietals of white you like, but you can find many of them here. My experience is that this is not much of a wine drinking nation and many smaller restaurants will have a very limited selection. Larger, touristy restaurants will have a larger selection but will be quite expensive.

However, the supermarkets, such as Billa and Delvita have extensive collections at very reasonable prices ranging from about 80 Kc and up. Many are in the 100-200Kc range.

Varietals include Reisling (Ryzlink), Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay and Tokay among others. Also, French, Italian, Spanish, Chilean and some California wines are available as well.

There are a number of wine bars around the city, so wine is growing but it is no where as popular or as cheap as beer.

Take a look at http://www.livingprague.com/wineguide.htm for a little descriptive info about local Czech wines. It%26#39;s originally from Squaremeal.cz so you can check that site to see if they updated the selection. Gives important info on years of production as well. I guess Muller Thurgau would be the closest to Californian.
