Trip with five month old baby

Dear Trip Advisor friends,

I hope you can help me. Our baby%26#39;s passport arrived yesterday, which means we are definitely all going to Prague at the end of October during a business trip for my husband. My husband and I have traveled a bit as a couple in the past, but this is the baby%26#39;s first plane flight, and I%26#39;m very nervous about meeting her needs and being a polite traveler in a country I%26#39;m so unfamiliar with.

Can anyone recommend

- baby friendly destinations? I don%26#39;t speak Czech, and she obviously can%26#39;t translate for me...

-vegetarian restaurants? We adults don%26#39;t eat meat, fish or chicken, but we do eat eggs and dairy products. She hasn%26#39;t started solids yet.

-places to buy formula, diapers, and maybe even a stroller?

- a guide who might be sympathetic to the slow baby pace and frequent need for feedings, changing, etc.?

Thanks in advance for any ideas,

Cat

For the plane, you%26#39;ll find take-off and landing are the worst times and normally breast or bottle feeding at those times will help out a lot as the pressure changes. You%26#39;ll find a list of veggie places at www.livingprague.com/restaurant.htm. Nappy sizes are in metric i.e. you%26#39;ll probably want the size 3 (up to 4.5kg). For baby formula I suggest you bring your own. Mothercare in Na Prikope (Myslbek centre) has the best options for baby clothes and strollers etc but expensive. For the guide try www.prague-guide.info. If your baby sleeps then thats the best time to eat.

Marriott doesn%26#39;t have the most character, but has family rooms and is a flat 200 yards from the old town. Near to two supermarkets (Billa in Celnice and Albert next to Kotva, both of which sell baby necessities. Mothercare in the Myslebek shopping centre on Na Prikope is also good - has baby changing facilities.

For a guide try one of Sarka Pelantova%26#39;s team on www.prague-guide.info

Dear Sova and Peb7,

Thank you so much for your advice. We had a fantastic trip to Prague. For everyone who has complained that they met with taciturn people or rude behavior in Prague, my advice is to travel with a six month old child. Czech people (along with travelers from Greece, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany and the U.S.) practically tripped over one another to talk to her, chat with me, entertain her or help me get her stroller on the tram or down the escalator onto the Metro. People jumped out of their seats on public transit to make sure we could sit down. I have never encountered such warm and sociable behavior on any trip abroad ever, not even in Italy and Spain. And it wasn%26#39;t just my child - my impression was that Czech people really love children and have a lot of patience for them.

I%26#39;d especially like to thank the people working at the Prague Hilton, who went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay.

To anyone else traveling with a baby, make sure you bring a stroller with incredible suspension. The city is truly paved with cobblestones, and packing our little umbrella stroller to save space has probably resulted in unknown brain damage to our child. (Actually, the cobblestones lulled her right to sleep, but it sure didn%26#39;t look comfortable).

To any vegetarians, the choices were ample. I particularly recommend Clear Head, near the Charles Bridge.

Thanks again,

Cat, that is exactly what I mean about the Czechs - they do not smile at everybody, but that does not mean they can%26#39;t. It is not their nature as it is the American style for example.
