Where can i find CHEAP beer!!?

Hi there!

Im intrigued where you can find the REALLY cheap beer? I believe you have to go in the somewhat more traditional czech pubs, rather than the large ones in the centre. Any suggestions? I mean obviously, we would like the pubs to be tourist friendly (wouldnt want to walk in there and get mugged/looked at us really strangely/ripped off etc). Plus, how much is this cheap beer?

Thanks!

the pub down the road from me sells beer (although it is Kozel, which you can%26#39;t accrurately describe as beer) for 20 crowns (50 pence), which is really, really cheap. Most places in the centre charge between 40 and 60 crowns ( 1 pound to 1 pound 50), so there really isn%26#39;t much difference. I would prefer to pay more to drink in a nice place and certainly a place where I won%26#39;t come out with lung cancer (although in Prague this is quite difficult). If you are paying 70 or 80 crowns a beer (2 pounds), as you can in some of the expat bars, you are being ripped off.

Of course, in nightclubs, they have a captive audience and so they charge what they like

I pay 18 crowns for excellent beer in my local pub, but Peb7 is right - it is very smoky, and I can%26#39;t wear my coat the next day because it smells so horrible. Generally, though, look out for places in side streets, particularly ones which sell Gambrinus (the cheaper, slightly weaker version of Pilsner Urquell, made by the same brewery, and the beer of choice for real Czech pubs), and avoid the more obvious tourist areas (pretty much all of Old Town). However, a good central, friendly pub near Old Town Square frequented by Czechs is %26#39;Kozika%26#39;, address Kozi 1 (open 12pm-4am weekdays, 6pm-4am weekends). Must admit I haven%26#39;t been there for a long time as I tend to avoid the centre nowadays, but it was always a cheap fun night out.

Hi,

I visited Kozika when we were in Prague last year and had a great night and pretty reasonable as well.

From memory 16CZK was my cheapest beer earlier this year in the Bar at Rajska Zahrada station.

If you fancy a trip to the North of the City then try the Pivni Galerie on U Průhonu. Easy to get to by Tram.

Great selection of bottled beers and usually a couple available on Draught in the small bar.
