Hi
I will be in Prague for the first time 16-18th of December and relly want to visit the Christmas markets. I read on an earlier post that one of the markets closes at 7pm. Is this the case for all of them? I was thinking it would be like Brussels where the market is open at night so you can get a bit of food and some gluhwein at the market rather than go out for a meal (I%26#39;m on a tight budget). Does anyone know what time the markets are on until please?
Also, how many markets are there and which are the best?
Thanks

all markets are open til 7pm weekdasys. At weekends, the christmas market in the old town sqaure closes at 8pm. It is normally too cold for poeple to man the markets all night.
old town sqwaure market (which has the best setting) is a lot better than in previous years - they have got rid of a lot of the tourist tat and have better food stands - if you are on a budget, you may find that the cumulative cost of nibbles at the christmas market comes to more than a meal at a local restaurant.

Are the Christmas markets likely to close early on Christmas Eve (as this is really their Christmas Day)?
If so, what kind of time?
Thanks

on christmas eve, midnight mass is held in the old town square at about 9pm, so the christmas markets stay open later (but of course don%26#39;t serve gluwien in the middle of christmas mass)

Do the markets still sell %26#39;tourist tat%26#39; as well as the food/wine etc? I enjoy looking at it, and some of them sell things make nice gifts for those at home.

Yes. Non-Christmas tourist stuff is on sale and is, in fact, a fairly large part of the market. There are, of course, many stands selling glass and wooden Christmas ornaments and other holiday/winter related items.
