Going to prague next weekend, what is the exchange rate for pound sterling in Prague? Would i be better using ATM in Prague or changing money in the UK, current rate is 39.70CZK to the pound.
|||
For updated exchange rates, go to www.xe.com. It is best to use the ATM, which are readily available throughout Old Town. Enjoy your trip. Prague Rules!

take sterling and go to EXchange. its a short walk from the old square. last week i had 41.20CZK to the pound and no commission
but be careful and keep your money in a safe. five star hotels have cleaners who are five star thieves.

When using the ATM remember you will pay £2 or £3 service charge from your UK bank. So dont take £20 or £30 from cashpoint machine as that works out real expensive.
I am told Tescos also do a very good exchange rate for your uk pounds

I am sure that you know that when you exchange money you have to be really attentive and it%26#39;s better to exchange money from down-town. My advice: Avoid train stations and people who camoe to you to sell you money in a bettter price. They are thieves!

I would either take money out of an ATM, or change money in the UK (with one of those cashback deals where they exchange money back to sterling at no commission and at the same rate that you exchanged it at).

last time I was in prague there were lots of places advertising no comission with excellent rates, but you only get 0% comm if you change over 1000 euros in a transaction! if you change less they whack on a big charge which makes it a worse exchange than the atm.
shop around and check the small print

With Nationwide (UK) they don%26#39;t charge for foreign transactions (which is very nice of them!). Do the ATMs charge when you use them? In the UK bank%26#39;s own atms don%26#39;t charge (though some of the private %26quot;box%26quot; ones you see at petrol stations etc. do)....
In summary - in Prague is there a charge for using the atm?
|||
Hi
There is no charge abroard for using ATM%26#39;s with your Nationwide card except for the USA whose own banks make a charge.
With Nationwide you get the full interbank rate which is usually about 10% better on small transactions.
The best thing about Nationwide is that you can change little and often so there is no reason to carry too much cash at once.
In the UK the best place to change money is Marks and Spencer, it beats the banks and travel agents hands down.

most banks apart from nationwide charge you to use ATM%26#39;s aborad. Whether that is the charge they receive from the foreign bank or the charge they make themselves, or both, you don%26#39;t normally know - you get one charge on your bank statement. even with a charge, if you don%26#39;t draw out small amounts, the better exchange rate you get can still mean that an ATM is cheaper than using exchange bureaux. If you do use exchange bureaux, I always try to get the deal where if you have any unused foreign currency, you can exchange it back commission free and at the same rate that you took when you took the foriegn currency in the first place

I always use the bank on Na Prikope or in the Old Town Square all the cashiers speak English and I have always got a good rate, did it once in Kotvas before I got wise and I was really ripped off and the same goes for the exchange bureaux in Old Town Sq they have so much small print it was impossible to read it while they were doing the hard sell act.
