Prague in December

A friend of ours who visits Prague a lot said that in December Prague is full of middle aged Brits who come for the Christmas markets and so on - does this mean that there won%26#39;t be many stag/hen parties then ?? We are middle aged Brits and a quieter December Prague would suit us rather than a very busy summer Prague, what do you experts think ??

there are still the stag parties coming, but if think about it, in December, there should be less, as people who want to get drunk do so at office chirstmas parties. Don%26#39;t let the stag parties put you off - Prague is big enough to avoid them and you will probably have more hassle with them at the airport and on the plane than in Prague itself.

Christmas markets are not all they are made up to be - the setting in the old town square is unmissable, but the hot wine is served in plastic cups and what is sold on the stalls is tourist tat. Don%26#39;t come just for the christmas markets, but they do add something if you come in December.

Prague is very different in winter as to summer. In the winter it is cold and there are potentially less things to do, as the days are shorter. The dark streets actually seem more crowded in winter than in summer. On the other hand, if it snows, Prague has a real magical feel that it cannot have in the summer, even with the outdoor cafes and restaurants. It is a tough choice. I would come in December and then come again in the summer, taking time then to visit some of the cities and districts outside Prague

Thanks for that, do the stag parties cause much trouble these days in Prague or have the Czech Police found a way of %26quot;containing%26quot; them ??

stag parties can be a pest, but I guess that if you are from the UK, you are used to loud behaviour of people on a Saturday night. As said above, Prague, unlike the smaller Eastern European capitals is large enough such that apart from at the airport you can avoid them. If you stay in Mala Strana or on a quiet street in the old town, for example where the Bellagio or Maximilian hotels are, you should have a quiet time

We are staying in the Kinksy Gardens hotel because it is supposedly quieter there away from the main tourist spots. PS am not used to noise as live in v. small sleepy Oxfordshire village. Saw awful TV programme about UK stag parties spoiling Prague and it has stuck in my mind, hope the Czech people don%26#39;t think we are all like that.
