Concert at St Georges Basilica

Hi,

I%26#39;m thinking of booking the classical concert at the St Georges Basilica on Sunday 12th November.

Prague Experience is offering tickets at 800 czk per person...... is it best to pre book or is it unlikely it will be fully booked if we just turn up (it%26#39;s at 4.30pm).

We are going to incorporate into the visit to Prague Castle.

Thanks in advance!

There are usually people outside the Basillica selling tickets during the day,so I suggest you buy them when you pass, they will be a bit cheaper than through Prague experience.

I was last at a concert there a few years ago and it was mst enjoyable, but be aware there is unlikely to be any heating on .The music was very good but typically %26quot;tourist music%26quot; ie Vivaldi %26amp; Mozart. The concert i went to had a girl singing a couple of arias and a section of hapsicord music which was very nice. The Concert only lasted about an hour.

these concerts are mostly tourist tosh. In most tourist concerts in churches, the orchestra or whatever plays in the gallery above - you can%26#39;t even see them when they play

You can see the real thing (Czech Philharmonic Orchestra) at the rudolfinium concert hall for half the price and it will be much better.

Thanks for your replies.

The reason we are looking a these ones is because they are in the afternoon which is great because we like to concentrate on long lovely dinners in the evening.

We%26#39;ll get tickets once we are there.

Thanks again!

***One more question..................... we are incorporating the concert into our trip to Prague Castle so will be in casual clothing/trainers. Will this be acceptable for the concert of are we best to take a change of clothes or shoes?

Thanks!

we were faily casually dressed when we went to the concert there.we had been touring the castle area and saw the concert tickets on sale and bought them on the spur of the moment.I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much about jeans and trainers.

Of course, by 4-30pm it will be dark so it%26#39;s nice to walk around to see the castle lit up at night but, no way I%26#39;ll be paying 800kc for a 1 hour %26quot;best of%26quot; production (even if you do get a free drink :-)). Peb is right on with the Rudolfinum tip.

But even %26quot;tourist tosh%26quot; can be enjoyable.

When I was in Prague last September there were any number of concerts available, lunchtime, afternoon and evening. I was able to pick and choose which one, where and what time to fit in with the rest of my plans, and bought all tickets more or less at the last minute.

I would echo the comment about being warmly dressed, though!

I went to a concert at the Estates theatre in March this year thinking I was going to a non-touristy concert.I had been there before for a full opera so thought I would be ok.

Paid 1250 czk for VIP tickets. It was a complete rip-off.

3 musicians and 2 singers ,we got a total of about 6 songs in an hour long show (exactly 60 minutes). What extra did we get for our VIP tickets ,a separate bar area and front 2 row seats.not a good deal at all.

Best classical concert I went to last year was at the Spanish Synagogue. Regular %26quot;buy at the door%26quot; tickets but, you%26#39;ll find most of the people inside are not tourists. Generally the people playing are synagogue students and not professional musicians who do it three times a week for the money. 300kc per ticket if I remember correctly. Seating inside for about 150 people.

Thanks everyone for your help and replies.

In all honesty I%26#39;m quite happy looking like a tourist and doing the touristy things for the 3 days that I%26#39;m in Prague (I am, after all, a tourist lol!)

I will of course avoid the puffa jacket and bum bag though ;-)

Thanks agin!

L xx
