Good local bars and cafes

I have booked a week in Prague in March next year, and we will be staying in the Hotel Hastal.

When we travel, we love to find little local cafes for breakfast (even though breakfast is provided at the hotel) and bars or restaurants that are full of character and not aimed at tourists.

We particularly like a reasonable priced lunch in a relaxed place with locals, although obviously not too intimidating for foreigners.

I would be very grateful for recommendations - other than good breakfast places they do not have to be in the immediate vicinity of the Hastal as we will be covering a lot of Prague on foot.

Many thanks in advance

For lunch, go out of the hotel, turn right and at the corner, go across the road and walk into Dahab. Lots of locals day and night but, enough tourist/Ex-pats to warrant an English Menu option.

For Breakfast, go out of the hotel and turn left. Further down the road is Chez Marcel.

bohemia bagels on masna street nearby the hotel, although if breakfast is provided by the hotel, I would take it.

Depends what you want to eat for lunch - bakehouse on the corner of v kolkovne street and dlouha street is good for a light lunch, as is ebel in the tyn courtyard behind the tyn church. cafe lamborghini offers on v kolkovne offers something more substantial.

Chez marcel as jason says looks like it is in paris and is a local legend. Other places to eat dinner within five minutes walk of the hotel are kolkovna on v kolkovne street, l%26#39;angolo, larry fary and DaNico, all on dlouha street (where you will find many bars). Molly Malones Irish bar is nearby bon u obecniho dvora street and doesn%26#39;t actually look too much like an irish bar; i.e. it has some character

Peb,

You recommended a place called Ebel, is this related to the Cafe Ebel whicih is on the street beginning with R near the Old Town Square? (Retesovka or something like that?) I stayed in an apartment down that street one holiday and used to love going for breakfast there, they did a strange breakfast with croissants, cream cheese and jam and it was delicious.

I%26#39;ll check the other Ebel out, thank you.

the cafe ebel in tyn is the same outfit that run the cafe ebel in retezova street, the other side of the old town square (both open at 9am). there is also a third cafe ebel on kaprova street near starometska metro station which opens at 7am. I pointed out the cafe at tyn, because this is the nearest one to the hotel, and for summer, the one that has the most outdoor seating
