Feeling very disappointed re. Christmas Markets

I booked a trip to Prague on the back of Pragueexperience stating that the Christmas markets were from Sunday 26th November, we travel on 26th and return to UK on 29th. Now they are stating the Christmas market(s) do not start until 2nd December - will there be any Christmas spirit before that date? I know there is more to Prague than the markets and I am looking forward to the wonderful sights, but this was supposed to be a Christmas trip and I%26#39;m feeling peeved - does anybody know of any Christmas markets starting the week before.

christmas market on namesti miru two metro stops out from the city opens today. closes at 7pm daily, but then it is dark at about 4pm. Many praguers say that although small, what is served is just as good if not better than the market at the old town square and it doesn%26#39;t have the tourist crowds to match. Go to the sahara cafe on the square afterwards for dinner

Thank you very much Peb, I will take your advice.

Me and my wife are also travelling this weekend and thought the market was running from this weekend , glad to see we will not completely miss a christmas market

I%26#39;ve just read Lisa%26#39;s note about the Christmas markets and am disappointed to learn the Christmas markets won%26#39;t be there. We booked after reading the same info. We%26#39;ve been to Prague before and were specifically going for the markets. I%26#39;d be interested to know if there will be any.

read the note above. Until December 2nd, the only Christmas market which is worth visiting is the one at namesti miru (which has already started)

if you have booked to come to Prague just for the christmas market, you will have been disappointed, even if the old town square market had been on. Prague Christmas markets are really inferior when you compare them to the markets in say, Koln, Nurnburg or Vienna

Thanks , I realised after posting the message that you%26#39;d mentioned the market at namesti miru. The markets aren%26#39;t the only reason for our visit, we wanted to catch up on some of the things we didn%26#39;t get to do when we were in Prague earlier this year. We will go out to namesti miru, it will be nice to explore farther afield. Thanks again.

I received the following reply from Prague Experience (after I complained to them about the incorrect information originally given on their website), clearly the change of dates was out of their hands, but thought you might like to know their response...

%26quot;The information we publish on Prague Experience is supplied to us direct by the organisers of the Christmas Markets and we go to considerable lengths to ensure that this information is correct.

Regrettably, Prague Town Hall has withdrawn permission for the Christmas Markets to operate over the last week of November. This decision was taken by the Mayor%26#39;s office - effectively breaking the signed contract - much to the annoyance of almost everybody in the tourist industry in Prague.

I can unfortunately therefore confirm that the start date for the Christmas Markets is the 2nd December 2006.

We published the change of dates on our site immediately, but

there will be some people, as yourselves, who are affected by this

decision. This has caused a lot of problems for a lot of people.%26quot;
