Czech Wines

Hi,

Looking at the Kampa Park wine list and see some decent looking Czech Wines.

How are they....how do they compare to more mainstream French/Italian wines?

Thanks!

For whites, the Muller-Thurgau, Sauvingon and Ryzlink all tend to be too sweet for my tastes. The Czech Chardonnays are not bad--very drinkable although not quite up to good French or new world Chards.

For reds, I%26#39;ve had a Frankovka, Rulandské and Moravian Cabernet which were all nicely dry and very drinkable. Again, good, but not great. I%26#39;ve not had the Barique.

In general, I like the Moravian reds over the whites.

Their prices, not unexpectedly, are very high, probably 3X markup although I can%26#39;t say I%26#39;m familiar with the vintners, just the varietals.

Very personal taste as always with wine so I%26#39;m sure others will have different opinions.

If you order wine at Kampa you better be prepared to select the year. 90,91,92,93 were overall good years, 97 was considered the best lately. Avoid 94,95,96 that often gets passed off as %26quot;reserve%26quot;.

I would always go for italian wines over czech, especially for red - not hot enough here
