hotel for New Year's Eve

We are two female friends going to Prague for New Year%26#39;s Eve and must chose beween Carlo IV hotel, Golden gates and Yasmin.

Carlo IV seems very nice but there is a pricey mandatory dinner for December 31st. The others have just an optional dinner on a boat.

Location and atmosphere, that%26#39;s what we are looking for!

Any suggestions and advice greatly appreciated!

don%26#39;t know the prices which you are being offered, both for the hotels and the new years eve dinner so cannot comments fully. What may help is that on new years eve, you can%26#39;t walk into practically any restaurant without a booking for a new years eve party - i.e. those restaurants open normally have a special menu and a special price.

Eating in your hotel can therefore be a bonus (you don%26#39;t need to find anywhere else to eat), especially if you can slip out at midnight to watch the new years eve fireworks and then come back to a party (although on new years eve, it will take you a good 30 minutes from the Carlo IV to the river, with the crowds).

Having a dinner on a boat can be good, as depending on how good the boat captain is, you could be in the middle of the river at midnight and have the best view of the fireworks. But beware, it is cold at midnight and you will probably need to be on deck early to reserve a spot. The dinners on boat trips tend to be buffets and not very good buffets at that. The other thing to remember is unlike a party at a hotel, you can%26#39;t just go off when you like back to your room - on a boat, you need to wait until the boat stops; i.e. the party finishes. This could be 3am in the morning.

As said above, can%26#39;t advise you what I would do, as don%26#39;t know the prices (carlo IV could be quoting 100 or 300 euros for dinner, which would make a difference to me if I was in your shoes), but hope the above helps

The Yasmin has the best location of the three. Carlo IV has a very hit and miss reputation. The reviews on TA seem pretty balanced between %26quot;loved it%26quot; and %26quot;hated it%26quot;. The room sizes are not the most spacious for this class. I prefer Yasmin. Careful on Wenceslas Square around midnight as it can get pretty wild with the fireworks.

People with Front facing rooms at the hotel Jalta get a terrifying view.

Thanks a lot for your answers! The gala dinner at CarloIV costs € 178 while the boat trip is € 120 (no drinks)

For Italy those are not outragious prices for New Year%26#39;s Eve.

What about the Golden Gate? I%26#39;ve read some good reviews on TA...

Thanks again,

Dany

golden gate is in the new town and gets good reviews on the reviews section under %26quot;Prague hotels%26quot;. Doesn%26#39;t have a restaurant like the Yasmin or the Carlo IV if you need this for other times. If you take the boat trip option, it is probably further from the boat than the Yasmin. Drinks on the boat for the evening shouldn%26#39;t cost anywhere near the 60 Euro difference in price - if you are prepared for the cold, a meal of less standard and the late night, the boat trip could provide more of a memorable experience
