Hi,
I was wondering what your recommendation would be fro transprot fromt eh airport to Hotel Andels.
We are arriving late evening next Thursday.
Thanks, Karen

We used the AAA Yellow Taxis directly outside the hotel. They have a list of all the hotels and tell you the price there and then. We had no problmes at all.

Andels also have their own cars which can pick you up and you can charge the cost to your room. More expensive than AAA, but also more convenient.
The grey Fix taxis at the airport also do transport. I must say that on the last few experiences I have had to and from the airport, i don%26#39;t subscribe to the view that AAA is any cheaper (in fact last time AAA were 100 crowns more expensive than the grey Fix taxis). The grey Fix taxis operate at a fixed cost per area - the AAA taxis are metered. If the AAA taxis went on the direct route to my home, they would be cheaper, but now on about 9 journeys out of 10, the AAA taxis have gone on the roundabout route to avoid the traffic each time I have picked them up. Fine if you are going at rush hour, but at 6.30 am for an early morning flight or at 10pm for returning, there is no traffic. the only reason for the long route is to bump up the cost - if I drove in my own car, sometimes, i could get there in just over half the time that it takes AAA (and for those that say why don%26#39;t you, the cost of parking at Prague airport is more per day than in Munich).
the other thing I would do before I leave the airport is buy a multiple transport ticket from the prague transport authority offices at the airport before you leave. They come in 3 or 7 day tickets. The office is on the right across the arrivals foyer when you have come out of customs. Office is open till 10pm. Andels is too far to walk from the castle or city but is well connected by tram and metro. having a multiple transport ticket takes out the hassle of buying transport tickets from people who don%26#39;t speak english (which they do at the airport)

Thanks very much for the information!
My next question was going to be about buying the transport tickets, but you have answered that already thanks.
I spent ages last night going through TRIPADVISOR trying to understand the %26quot;validating%26quot; the ticket thing - can you also do that at the airport?
I would rather pay a bit more for a pass to take the hassle out, so I will definately take your advice.
Thanks for you help

3 day ticket is 220 crowns (about 5 pounds fifty) 7 day ticket is 280 crowns (about 7 pounds). Both are valid on the petrin funicular
you validate the ticket once and once only when you first use them (and then the 72 hours or week begins) in the orange ticket machines you will see at entrances to the metro stations, or on the trams or buses

Dont listen to what anyone has said. Its a piece of cake to get to this area. After landing at the airport buy a ticket for the public transport at the aiport information desk.....either 1,3 or 7 days i think according to your stay.Walk outside the terminal building and you look about and think.....%26quot;oh my God %26quot;....dont panic!. Look for tthe bus number 119, board it with your ticket and put the ticket in the yellow machine next to the driver which will date stamp your ticket.Take a seat.Wait until you get to the end of the jouney where the bus will pull in and stop. When the bus does stop, get up, walk off the bus to the Metro station which is located next to the bus stop. When you go down the escalator with your case be careful as they are very steep. On the platform look for your destination which funny enough is called ANDEL....The buses if i remember run every 20 minutes and the Metro trains are approximately every 4 minutes.I honestly could not believe how EASY it is to get around Prague .It has one of the most impressive public transport systems in the world.Once you have had your ticket stamped on the bus make sure you carry it at all times.Inspectors are in plain clothes and will board either buses, trams or metro trains and ask to see it as proof of payment. You dont even have to show it to any of the drivers as you board any form of transport.

Yeah, I agree with the last post, Andel is very easy to get to and everybody knows it. I suppose if you live in an out of the way place, taxi drivers can use varying routes to get you there and the cost could vary.
But for Andel%26#39;s hotel if you just get one of the yellow taxis, say how much to andel%26#39;s hotel? They will say meter. Then you can say 300kc maximum (you can go up to 350kc and it will still be cheaper than anything but public transport)? And if it is not rush hour he will probably say OK.

two points on the above post.
Cabbotaix. Poor Kazzah will be totally lost on the above instructions. Bus 119 goes from the airport to Dejvicka metro on the green line. To get to Andel, you then need to go to mustek station and then change to the yellow line to get to Andel. the journey that way will take well over an hour.
prahaman - AAA taxis at the airport are not in the negotiating mode - you pay by the meter, not on what you decide you want to pay.
Of course, the easiest way by public transport is to take the 100 bus to zlicin and then the yellow metro line to Andel and then walk from Andel metro station to andel%26#39;s hotel. But please read Kazzah%26#39;s note. She will be arriving LATE EVENING. Public transport in Prague doesn%26#39;t run every 4 minutes late evening and so the journey will take much longer than in the day. even though Prague is safe at night, many people who have never been to Prague before don%26#39;t want to find the hotel from a metro station in the cold and dark of a winter evening.
I would advise taking a taxi from outside the airport, a shared Cedaz minibus or have the hotel pick them up. For Andels, the journey will be less than 15 pounds. For me, that is a good price to pay to start my holiday with a minimum of hassle.

Peb7. I didn%26#39;t suggest negotiating, I suggested asking what the maximum price will be. Most Prague taxi drivers are willing to agree to that whether they are AAA or somebody else. You can try it next time you are afraid they will drive you all over prague on your way home.

AAA does charge less than what I consider the maximum from my house to the airport (what Fix charges). My point is that if they didn%26#39;t go right down the karlovy vary road at night, I could get to the airport cheaper and quicker

Hi Karen,
My boyfriend and I have just returned (last night) from Andels hotel, we used http://www.123-prague-airport-transfer.com/ to book the transfers. It cost under £30 for a return journey - (the price was confirmed at time of booking). The driver was there waiting for us when we came through arrivals gate and spoke good English. They also picked us up from the hotel in plenty of time for the return trip. I would highly recommend them. The hotel is just around the corner from the metro station but if you are arriving in the evening as we did, I would rather be driven in comfort than struggle with suitcases on the trains!
Enjoy your trip, the hotel is wonderful as is Prague.
Nicola
