Two Mom's go to Prague

Hi - Just got back from Prague two days ago. The two of us moms...both 50...one American and one German spent Thur to Sunday in Prague and both of us would go back there in a minute. We flew from Frankfurt getting into Prague at 11:30 Wed night....first nice suprise was the beautiful new airport. I had booked Prague Shuttle on line...and just as promised our driver was waiting for us...cost 24 euros or 28 US...the driver from Canada filled us in on the way to the hotel with lots of info. We stayed at the Atos...booked by my German friend...it was a good, clean, budget ( by american standards) hotel...we liked the easy access to the tram. The first morning we booked the 6 hour yellow umbrella city walking tour...which was a good decision. We saw everything...had great info from the English speaking guide...after the tour we felt completely oriented with the city and were ready to explore on our own. We did a lot...went to the marionette theater( we felt like 5 year olds sitting on the benches laughing as much as the kids were) saw a black light theater show...went to see Carmen at the State Opera ( we did it last minute...when we found out they did not take euros we had to make a mad dash thru the darkened streets to find a money changer and get back in time to see the show...we felt like contestents in the popular American show..Amazing Race!) We drank beer, had hot chocolate at one of the cafes lining Old Town Square(they have outdoor heaters), ate great food...every type from little great pubs to the Kampa Park( loved the BMW chauffer ride back to our hotel). We thought the people were courteous and friendly.. both.the locals and tourists ( if lost it seemed like there was some friendly person from the UK to help us)..locals on the trams would help us figure out our stops...we both looked at each other and said...where are these unfriendly persons people have talked about online? Not many Americans..which I liked. We felt safe at all times of day and night...and were always aware of the presence of pickpockets. One shopkeeper was more than patient as I tried to figure out the differences between my Euro and Chech coins. Yes..there was a lot of smoking ...but not as much as Germany....it did not bother me. We loved people watching...more stylishly dressed people than we had expected..but anything goes as long as you are dressed warm. We wished we had the legs to wear the gorgeous boots we saw on young women. We were suprised as to the amount of money that seems to be around...expensive cars, furs, crowds in high end resturants....is it local or tourists??? Where is the money coming from. We walked our legs off...the best way to discover Prague...loved the Charles Bridge in the early morning...awed every time we turned around...humbled at the Jewish cemetery....for me Prague is a city that made me feel so alive while there.....can%26#39;t wait to go back!

The entire old town square is ringed with outdoor cafes...so you have so many choices...something we were not expecting...of course we did not have any rain so that was why so many people dining outside. I think the one we went to was Cafe Italia. The Charles Bridge is a social scene in itself...lots going on and lots of people.
