After quite a bit of research I%26#39;ve booked the Zlata Hvezda Hotel, loved the look of it, not one of those boring could be anywhere hotels, hope it is OK. I would like advice of places we should not miss and recomendations of where to eat out (not too expensive) . Also what is the best way of getting too and from the hotel to the sights. I am looking out my thermals and comfy boots as we plan to do lots of walking

zlata hvezda is just underneath the castle. to put your mind at rest, read the 12 good reviews on the reviews section of this site. Best way to reach the hotel is a taxi which should not cost more than 600 crowns. Before you leave the airport, pick up some 14 crown tram tickets from the prague transport authority office in the arrivals hall at the airport. Hotel is at the top of the hill, which is ok when you walk down in the morning, but later on, you may find it easier to take the 22 or 23 tram round from malostranske namesti at the bottom of the hill, and when you get to the top, walk through the castle to the hotel.
Gitanes restaurant and David, both on Trziste streets in the castle district are good, as is square down in the malostranske namesti. you are talking about 25 pounds a head

Thanks for that Peb, I am getting really excited about our visit. You mentioned getting Tram tickets and I see some other poeple have advised getting a 3 day pass at the Airport. What is the cost for the tram and underground single journeys please and do you think it worthwhile getting a pass for the 3 days.
Thanks for your advice it is really helpful.

for the zlata hvezda which is next to the charles bridge, I wouldn%26#39;t bother with a 3 day public transport ticket unless you are traveling by public transport to and from the airport. the old town is walkable from the hotel. The only time you really need the tram is when you don%26#39;t want to walk back up the hill to the hotel. I would buy a bunch of 14 crown single tickets from the transport authority offices at the airport (which even if you go back to the hotel twice a day, will work out cheaper than the 3 day ticket - 220 crowns; i.e. 70 crowns or so per day)
