Christmas Day in Prague

Just wanting to hear from anyone who has had Christmas day in Prague? Do you need to book in advance for lunch or evening meal? Does anyone have any good suggestions for a good restaurant that is open Christmas day (we don%26#39;t want anything too expensive )?

We have the same dilemma: we don%26#39;t land in Prague until the afternoon of 25 December, but wouldn%26#39;t want the day to pass without doing something special (but at reasonable cost).

Please, someone, point all these %26quot;lost lambs%26quot; in the right direction!

I have since found other messages detailing good places to eat (see 13th %26amp; 14th Nov postings) but any further recommendations would be appreciated.

There are plenty of places %26amp; things to do detailed on www.pragueexperience.com but would like to hear from someone first hand about the best way to spend Christmas in Prague.

HI

We stayed in Prague for 3 days over chirstmas 2005 and had an amazing time. We eat out in the town on a couple of occasions the food was okay but I would recomend doing a little reseach for your christmas dinner. The only meal we pre-arranged was on christmas day at the Kampa Park Restaurant which is located by Charles Bridge the food was good but because of the the chain smokers on the table next to us we left after the main course and retruned to our hotel for desert... we stayed at the Aria Hotel in the Old Town and would highly recomend their restaurant (chocolate fudge brownie with home made vanilla icecream was delicious. Prague is alive over christmas and the atmosphere is excellent.

I am looking to go away over christmas again this year..... could you recommend anywhere?

many restaurants close from 24th until 27th and those that do open in the evening often have special chirstmas meals. don%26#39;t expect turkey and the like unless you go somehwere like the intercontinental or marriott. the main christmas meal is on the evening of 24th December - 25th December is like boxing day in the uk. like in england, you probably wouldn%26#39;t have a hope walking into a restaurant on christmas day or boxing day without a reservation and so the same is recommended in Prague, or try to eat your main meal as a late lunch.

Let us know where you are staying and we can try to recommend a restaurant nearby

assuming that you mean the powder tower on Jindrisska and not the other powder towers, kogo in Slovansky dum should be open

I am staying in Prague for 4 days over xmas and have just booked Bily Konieck for the 25th pm. Can anyone tell me what its like??? It looks lovely, all underground in 12th century cellars. But the food and atmosphere are what makes a place - so if anyone has been it would be great to hear how it was.

I spent a week in prague earlier this year and can recommend Flambee - but it seems very expensive for xmas lunch - certainly wasnt that expensive on a regular day.

tourist restaurant, where as you say, you eat in a cellar. Won%26#39;t find many locals going to this place, as you can get better value and less heavy cooking elsewhere.

as for price, in England, you wouldn%26#39;t expect a Christrmas day lunch to cost the same as a lunch in the same restaurant on any other day of the year - you pay a special price for a meal on a special day (mostly due to the fact that you need to pay extra for the people to work on their Christmas Day whilst you eat). Why should you therefore expect any difference in Prague?
