Just returned from 4 days in Prague. Visited a number of markets and must say really disappointed with the Old Town Sq market this year. We have been a few times before and there appeared to be less stalls selling less interesting Christmas stuff but more food and tourist stuff. Also prices seemed quite expensive even for small items and no a lot of variety. The Wenceclas Square market did not seem much better but didn%26#39;t stay long as it was pouring with rain
However two stops and five minutes on the A Metro is Namesti Miru (Peace Square) and this market was really good we thought - smaller but little tourist tat, better prices better variety, cheaper hot wine and a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended. Try also Namesti Republiky which is 5 minutes walk from Old Town which is similar but a bit smaller and not quite as good . There is also one on Havelska between Old Town and Wencelsas Square but looked to have the same stuff as the main ones.
Best bargains were on Sunday in a small Christmas fair in Kampa Island Park where there were around 7 or 8 stalls selling really nice hand made stuff at really cheap prices ( candles half the Old Town Sq price). If it s there this weekend worth a small detour off
Charles Bridge
We did enjoy the atmosphere in Old Town Square however - excellent tree and lights and lots of carol singing etc on the stage. NIce to stand and watch this with a cup of hot wine and a trdlo

Hi
Thanks so much for this report. I%26#39;m going to Prague this weekend for the first time. I will make sure I look for the fair in Kampa Island park. Just a quick question, did everything end at 7pm (ie markets, lights etc)?
Thanks

Hi,
I%26#39;m going to Prague on Monday, WOOO, and I am quite looking forward to seeing the Markets. I%26#39;m just wondering how expensive the stuff on the market- the food, wine, %26#39;tourist tat%26#39; and local items?
Thanks in advance.
Gemma.

The markets started closing down around 7 pm but in practice many were still open later. The lights etc in Old Town Square were still on till late and some of the food stalls were still selling hot wine etc
