This is a great forum with lots of helpful suggestions particularly for those of us who have never been to Prague. I have been reviewing the many messages for ideas in selecting a hotel. We are planning a trip to Prague in July 2007.
There are some really great places in the city center near all of the tourist places of interest but the high prices obviously reflect the overwhelming tourist demand. I%26#39;m hoping that somebody can suggest a nice clean hotel which offers double rooms for 2 people with private bath with lots of local character. We do not need to be in the city center, and would be up to some commuting into the city. We plan 5 to 7 days in Prague to include some excursions to Karlstejn and Cesky Krumlov. Your suggestions and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

can you elaborate more on %26quot;high prices%26quot;? $200 may be a high price for one person for a double room per night, but an acceptable price for others. what kind of stars / grade / comfort of hotel are you looking for? some people have posted that if you contact www.travelcook.com for the price you want, they can give you a selection.
the new Courtyard Marriott at Flora is clean and gives good direct metro connection to the centre and is cheaper than staying in the centre, but doesn%26#39;t have much character. Hotel Anna close by is older and has a bit more charactrer, as long as you don%26#39;t stay in the annex - but beware, character in Prague for 3 star hotels normally means no air conditioning, and this year July was hot

have a look at this hotel. It is in the Zizkov ,just out from the city center about 3 tram stops.It%26#39;s not a luxury hotel, but good and clean with easy access to the city ,you can walk there in 20 -25 minutes.
They do have superior rooms which have all been recently upgraded, but earlier this year we stayed in a standard room which was fine, though the decor was looking a bit tired, maybe by summer of 2007 these rooms will have been upgraded too.Food in the hotel was very good also and staff excellent.

I have just been looking for a hotel for my folks coming over for
christmas and have booked Hotel Triska, www.hotel-triska.cz, two metro stops from the very center, spotless clean.

Martina, wow, exactly what we were hoping to find. I have already sent a request to them for reservations. Thanks.
Thanks also to Peb7 and unclegus. I hope I can also come back later as we get closer to our departure for some suggestions for some nice quaint restaurants with good local dishes.

don%26#39;t book a room on the front of the hotel or on a low floor if you are a light sleeper - trams go by on the street until midnight and from early morning

Peb, thanks for the tip. I%26#39;ll send a follow up to them.

Martina %26amp; Peb, I was able to get reservations at Hotel Triska and it is for a room at the back and away from the main street. Thanks very much for the tip and good advice. I%26#39;ll be watching the forum for some good restaurants. I have 3 so far:
Kolkovna
U Golema
7 Angels
What do you think? Our preference is to enjoy as many different traditional local dishes as possible in a charming old fashioned atmosphere.
Thanks.......Buckala

the three restaurants are decent. I would choose stoleti in karoliny svetle street over golem

We ate at Tri Stoleti in the Kampa area just 4 days after it opened = showed real promise.
A few blocks from the old town square, we had a great meal at Lary Fary also owned by the Kolkovna group. Very pleased with this one.

Peb %26amp; Nicolaitan: Thanks for your suggestions. I have added them to my list. A previous post also suggested Cervena Tabulka for authentic czech food. Is this a keeper? Can you suggest any places which offer old fashioned entertainment with czech music and folk dances?
