prague on the cheap

Just returned from Prague and didnt find it as cheap as people say. Loved the place and are thinking of going back quite soon but would like to know if anybody knows any cheap bars, cafes and restaurants in the Old Town and Little Quarter areas as think we may have been going to the wrong places. Is it only cheap if you drink beer ? as we are more of spirit drinkers but didnt find these too cheap. Thought Prague may just have been catching up with rest of Europe price wise. Def go back though as brill place.

There are a lot of tourist places that charge an arm and a leg. But the local pubs and restaurants are cheaper. Certainly we are catching up with the rest of Europe big time. Why don%26#39;t you ask before your next visit, as things change quickly here and what is there today must not be there tomorrow.

The %26quot;local %26quot; bars and restaurants are mostly cheap and good quality for food and drink but you have to know where to go as some will rip you off!

I recommend you check www.classiccitybrew.com/prague. I was in Prague last week and found their recommendations excellent value. However, with one dishonourable exception: U Milosrdnych, should be avoided (no 12 in the street of the same name in the old town). I was there with my wife last Thursday. A pleasant enough evening was spoiled when the nicey-nicey waiter brought the bill-20% had been added on to everything!!! Of course I questioned it, but he just smiled and said %26quot;sevice%26quot; . As I said , I was with my wife who didn%26#39;t want any fuss especially as the bar was full of locals, so we just had to pay.(the irony was I would have given a tip of nearly as much anyway)

Avoid U Milosrdnych bar.

We had good experiences at %26quot;local%26quot; pubs...we would note the daily special usually written on a blackboard outside the door...good and cheap...compared to US liquor prices we were pleasantly suprised. Had a bottle of wine at Kampa Park for 18 Euros...that would not happen where I live at that quality of resturant.

Hey, what kind of prices were you paying for food and drink?

did you find any nice places to eat dinner (dress up)?

also, i remember you posted about the clothes situation when in prague, what did you take with you and wear according to the weather?

glad you had a fab time, i can%26#39;t wait to go!

go to the restaurant in the passage opposite bila labut department store on na porici street (just east of the old otwn) if you want prague on the cheap. Set three course meal for 79 crowns (less than 2 pounds)

There were a lot more resturants than we expected...we did make advance reservations at Kampa Park which was great...although we would have been happy at many others. We brought warm stylish clothes because that is how my friend and I like to dress...we each had a Burberry wool coat ( not planned )...black pants or jeans, sweaters, scarves and we fit right in. Shoes were important as the cobblestones are very uneven so I think heels would have easily gotten caught. Back to the resturant ...one night we just stopped in at a pub and had the best time...great beer, atmosphere, people and food...we think we had the best time at that type of resturant.

Food prices...At Kampa Park..we each paid about 70 euros...that was for appetizer, entree, dessert, and a bottle of wine...The pubs were about 10 euros max. We liked having hot chocolate at one of the outdoor cafes that surrounded the Old Town Square...they had outdoor heaters...great people watching!
