good places to eat

on last 2 visits to prague, we%26#39;ve had all our meals in tgi fridays (sticking to what we know i guess)

i was just wondering if there is any place different that do the same sort of food? (steak, chips, burgers etc) at good prices?

not really interested in fancy restaurants, we%26#39;re simple people with simple tastes!!!

try Bar Archa on Naprstkova, very nice small bar where you can get a range of meals at very good prices including Krusovice beer for around 25 Kc, enjoy!

Czech places like TGI Friday%26#39;s, but even better:

Potrefena Husa (multiple locations) -- here is one (great burgers):

Ambiente on Manesova (great steaks, get the South American):

If you want a fantastic burger (some say they%26#39;re best in Prague, but I can%26#39;t vouch for that) try Jama Pub at V Jame 7 which is on a side street in New Town. When we were there the customers were pretty evenly split between ex-pats and Czechs, but not a lot of tourists. It%26#39;s seemed to us to be a cross between a British Pub and a Czech bar...really neat little place with a good menu. I don%26#39;t know what the locals think of it, but we enjoyed it.

Sorry...I meant to say it%26#39;s a cross between an American Bar and a Czech Bar...

tgi fridays does not offer good prices - it is a rip off.

For steaks, try el-gaucho in wenceslas square. Red, hot %26amp; blues in kralodvorska street behind kotva does good southern us cooking for much better prices than tgi fridays

Beside the rest recommend above, how about rest outside of the tourist area?

|||

both the above are where locals as well as tourists go, and so aren%26#39;t so expensive as real tourist places. Outside the tourist area is a real wide area. Which part of prague are you staying in?

You have to try Ambiente - it%26#39;s behind the Square (the street behind the clock tower, I think). It%26#39;s Brazilian BBQ and the one restaurant that we always have to go to when in Prague - sounds really weird, I know.

Basically, waiters walk around with different cuts of steak, lamb, chicken (even liver), fish, shrimps, pineapples, etc. You signal for them to cut you a small slice and stop when you%26#39;re full. Dinner also comes with a pretty fresh sampling of salads, sushi, etc. You also get the best cheese breads and fries/plantains/rice with your meal.

We visit Prague quite a lot and ironically, this is our favorite restaurant.

Dessert is fun - my favorite is the chocolate fondue.

Oh yeah, they make a mean mojito!

The Ambiente group also owns Pasta Fresca just east of the Old Town Square on Celetna I believe. If you want a decent Italian meal this was pretty good indeed. And surprisiningly for location, when we were there, not so many tourists.

On Dlouha street about 3 blocks from the Old Town Square near Rybna we wandered into the Lary Fary restaurant which didn%26#39;t looks so wonderful from the outside but has a great basement level and had a really good meal. Tourist ratio maybe 40T - 60 local customers.
