Currency in Prague

My daughter is off to Prague soon. Does she need to take just Crowns or are Euros accepted as well?

some places take euro%26#39;s, but crowns are the official currency and are accepted everywhere. hope she enjoys the city, and check the forums for some good travel safety tips :)

Prague airport is modern, large but easy to navigate, but make sure to take a map of the city, before you go if possible to get an idea of the city layout, as at night it can be difficult to navigate around the less touristy areas.

talking of which, the touristy areas are busy and well lit.

:D

Have both if she already has Euros. We were able to use Euros at many places but not all...so you have to be prepared with the crowns.

Crowns are the national currency of the Czech Republic - any place that takes the Euro will give a relatively unfavorable exchange rate to their advantage for providing covenience. We had no trouble finding ATM and this can be the best source of the currency.

You can still find places which still give the 30kc = 1 Euro rate which makes paying in euros a bit cheaper but, as pointed out above, most places offer 25kc which makes it more expensive. Also consider that you won%26#39;t get euros in any change i.e. if you pay in euros then change is in Korun. If you are ordering money before you come then try and get 200kc and 500kc notes. You can get an idea of the worth of the currency and ATM advice at www.livingprague.com/money.htm

my point is simple. Whilst euros are accepted in some places in the czech republic, the national currency is czech crowns. would you advise people to bring euros and not pounds to england?

|||

We would pay in Euros just because we had them..( We were traveling out of Germany)...and then be glad to get change in Crowns. We did not spend that much money that the exchange rate was not a huge issue for us. I would think that you could not spend pounds anywhere. We hit a snag one night going to the State Opera at the last minute...they would not take Euros or charge cards...so had to run back under the overpass and find a money change office and run back just in time to get seats at the Opera....so you will have times where you must have crowns.

thanks everyone for your help.

cheers
